Yup, not kidding. In fact, it is known as the most expensive coffee in the world! Sold for around $3,000 per Kg.

During our recent trip to Bali, we discovered Kopi Luwak during one of our tours. So this is how Kopi Luwak is produced. First the coffee beans are fed to Luwak’s, then their poop is collected, beans are then separated from the poop (I wonder if anyone actually goes out of their way to sign up for this part of the process), beans  are thoroughly washed, roasted and finally filtered. At first, it sounded disgusting and we wondered why someone would pay a lot of money for coffee that literally tastes like shit. Then the daredevil side of us kicked in, add tour guide and tour group peer pressure to that and we finally decided to give it a try!

Well, you ask, does it at least taste good? It’s not bad but honestly, my expectations were way too high when I knew every sip I was taking was probably more than the cost of a tall latte at Starbucks!
